Designs extend to 15 feet x 22 feet (21 feet effective). Though mill length is limited by manufacturing constraints for the grinding rods, our Rod Mills are available in diameters from 5 feet up to 15 feet. Designs extend to 15 feet in diameter by 21 effective feet in length.

Our Rod Mills are suited to grind coarse materials like limestone, potash, coal, phosphate and bauxite.

Ideal for low tonnage operations expand_more

Whereas a SAG and ball mill may be ideal for larger operations, the Rod Mill is ideal for low tonnage applications.

Durable, low-footprint Rod Mills 



  • Feed is preceded by a secondary crushing stage
  • Grind by attrition predominantly
  • Most are low aspect L/D ratio ranging from 1.4:1 to 1.5:1
  • Installed power up to 1800 KW (2,500 HP)
  • Most discharge via trunnion-overflow
  • Volumetric loading is similar to that of a ball mill (30-35%)
  • Design standards for drive components are more demanding than ball mills
  • Dry applications feature a peripheral discharge or an air-swept arrangement
  • Typical operating speeds are slower than either SAG or ball mills: 65-70% TCS (wet) and 62-63% TCS (dry)

Rod Mills can be either wet or dry designs. Once replaced by AG and SAG mills, Rod Mills have had a recent resurgence in the industry.
